From First Click to Contract: How We Walk With You Through Every Research Step
I have spent years watching brilliant research ideas die on the vine. Not because the science was weak. Not because the funding was unavailable. But because the path from “we should collaborate” to “let’s sign the contract” was so tangled, so slow, and so full of hidden traps that everyone simply gave up.
That is why I am particularly proud of how we work at SKRC. We operate with full transparency and member governance, balancing both commercial and non‑profit activities. But more than that, we do not just introduce you to a Swedish lab and wish you luck. We walk with you. From the very first click on our website to the final signature on a completed project, we are your partner, your guide, and your safety net.
Let me walk you through what that actually looks like.
Phase 1: Discovery – Where Trust Begins
Your journey might start with a free lecture at our Swedish Dialogue Forum. Perhaps you read a story in the Nordic R&D Bridge newsletter. Maybe a colleague mentioned us. Whatever the first click, our goal is simple: to show you that Swedish research excellence is real, accessible, and backed by a standard of ethics that you can rely on.
You do not pay a cent for this phase. You simply attend, learn, and decide whether the Nordic ecosystem is right for your research question. I personally believe that trust must be earned before any contract is signed. That is why we invest founder resources into making our Dialogue Forum professional, translated, and genuinely valuable.

Phase 2: Engagement – Let’s Talk
When you are ready to move forward, you will speak to one of our matchmaking specialists. This is not a sales call. It is a qualification conversation. We want to understand your research question, your budget, your timeline, and your IP expectations. Equally important, we want to assess whether we can genuinely help you.We are transparent about what works and what does not. If your project is too small for our model, we will tell you. If your timeline is unrealistic, we will tell you that too. Why? Because I would rather lose a potential client than promise something we cannot deliver. Reputation is the only currency that matters in research collaboration.
Phase 3: Matchmaking – Beyond Keywords
This is where our approach to matchmaking makes the difference. We carefully analyse your requirements – drawing on a combination of human expertise and, in time, AI‑assisted tools designed to enhance accuracy.
Our goal is not to rely on simple keyword matching like “hydrogen” or “biomaterials.” Instead, we look for genuine capability fit: Has this researcher solved similar problems before? Is their equipment available during your project window? Do they have experience working with international partners?
We then present you with two or three recommended Swedish labs. You meet them virtually. You check the chemistry. And only when you are satisfied do we move to the next stage. You are never locked into a match you do not want.

Phase 4: Contracting – Where We Earn Our Fee
I will be honest: this is the phase that terrifies most international partners. Swedish IP law is unique. The Professor’s Privilege means researchers own their inventions. GDPR looms over every data transfer. Different universities have different contract templates and different risk appetites. This is also the phase where SKRC delivers the most value. Our legal team drafts a bespoke IP Bridge agreement tailored to your specific project and the specific Swedish institution involved. We coordinate with the university’s tech transfer office. We ensure that your commercial rights are protected and that Swedish researchers retain their academic freedom. We set up our Audit‑Ready Research Ledger to track every milestone, every payment, and every invention disclosure.
Where traditional negotiations often take many months of back‑and‑forth, our goal is to minimize that time significantly – bringing it down to a matter of weeks, depending on the complexity of the project and the responsiveness of all parties. You do not need to hire Swedish legal counsel from scratch. We handle the heavy lifting.
Phase 5: Execution – We Stay in the Boat
A signed contract is not the end of our work. It is the beginning.Throughout the project, we monitor milestones, facilitate payments, and mediate any disagreements before they escalate. If you use our AR Research Pathways, we record and timestamp every collaborative session – providing objective evidence of work completed. If a dispute arises, our Research Ledger serves as a neutral source of truth.
I often tell my team: do not wait for problems to become crises. Call the partners weekly. Ask if they need help. Be the glue that holds the consortium together. That is the only way to ensure that the science – not the administration – gets the attention it deserves.
Phase 6: Completion – What Comes Next
When the final report is delivered and the last payment is made, we do not disappear. We help you package the results into a case study. We invite you to present at the Dialogue Forum. We ask if you would be willing to refer us to other partners.Because a successful project is not a one‑off transaction. It is the beginning of a long‑term relationship. And in my experience, the best marketing we have is a partner who says: “SKRC made this easy. We will work with them again.”
